3.7 / 5Great location by Villa-Maria metro.
Housekeeping staff services are inadequate. They cannot possibly clean a 500 sq. foot apartment in 20 mins. Too often found spots missed, and left dirt and debris on the floor during mopping. Many times they were short staffed and skipped out on the services rather than discounting us. Left seniors completely alone in isolation when they got Covid. Went into isolation with my father after recovering from it a week or two earlier, Head nurse said it's not allowed. I offered to call the police to explain: You can't get re infected in such a short time. I'm genetically linked and I needed help when I was infected and therefore given advanced age, he will need help too. I will be that help. Full PPE. They backed off. Too many bed bug outbreaks for a private residence, staff still accept money under the table despite warnings and memos, difficult to communicate with nursing staff. Had to call in CLSC to oversea, because of private nurses inadequacy, missed too much work because of lack of communication of private nurses inadequacies. Laundry facilities are awful. 2/5 washing machines are broken at any given time. Found a resident from the closed floor escaped, confused in the elevator. Poor supervision. They would not tell me how often this happens. Had issue with PAB talking harshly to residents, refused to get ice twice, saying it's not their job, practicing poor hygiene on my father, and when confronted accused him of being violent which he wasn't. I was there the entire time and thankfully had cameras to back it up. You wonder why there are so many urinary tract infections. Retraining, retraining. More mistakes. Residence published wrong birthdate and confused the situation 2024. Paramedics chased down nurse 3 times to finally come into the room and the paramedic told her stay in the room to deal death questions, by law. Not impressed. Little to no accountability. Food was ok, kitchen staff was kind. Mr. H and Irish Blond great PAB, human and compassionate. Mr. C handyperson, quick, competent and compassionate. About 6 people who were good out of too many that were not. The ratio is not good. Too much admin and not enough staff.
some staff members are rude. my mother stays in her room due to not fixing the air condition in the lobby. she can not come down for meals .no aircondition in lobby. the entrance pannel is broken for long time. need to bang on the door to reception to be fix. food is not great but has fancy names. it mentions goat cheese we ran out. so sorry
Terrible. My mother moving to the Vista was a huge mistake and the end result was her having to move again 2 years later. Séléction Retraite Vista is a complete and utter cash grab. They do not care at all about the residents. My mother had a fall and they knowingly left her lying on the floor of her bedroom FOR HOURS in the middle of the night until the ambulance arrived (I live in another province and called her numerous times that night and she was always still on the floor alone.) The food is horrendous and not very senior friendly - over salted etc. My mother paid a substantial additional fee to get her suppers from there daily. Two days in a row they did not deliver her a meal and even though she called the kitchen to let them know she hadn't received anything - they still left her with no meal. They did however charge her for those two meals, as well as for the delivery of them. Maintenance in the building is lacking - there was a broken sconce outside of my mother's apartment that remained just a bare bulb the entire time she lived there (2 years). The dryers in the units do not work and apparently have not, for many years. The admin/management is awful. Most recently, they erroneously continued to withdraw rent after she moved out ($3400+) and have still not returned the money to her - seven weeks later!! If you are looking for a great place for your parent(s) to live, this is not it. UPDATE: I responded to the Vista’s reply and emailed them at the address they mention below. No one has contacted me. At the time of writing this, it has been two months since Selection Vista unlawfully withdrew money ($3400+) from my mother’s bank account and it has still not been returned.
My mother stayed in the extended care wing of the residence and my review is based on this. Beginning with the building , it is relatively new and situated in an area which is quite central in the central west area of Montreal. It is meters away from Decarie Blvd, so access to downtown or the west island is not a problem. The interior is bright and airy and well appointed. It is very welcoming and a pleasure to hang around. There is ample indoor parking , although the number of spots for visitors is rather limited. The worst aspect of the building is the architect (who should have failed his program) is the fact that there are 2 small elevators for such a large building. Expect to wait for them especially during dining and entertainment hours. Speaking of Entertainment, it is usually good, ranging from excellent down to well... maybe they should have stayed alonesinging in their shower. . but the residents love it.. I enjoyed accompanying my mother to sever concerts where they offer coffee and DELICIOUS cookies... In terms of food, it is typical institutional food.. a bit uneven in quality and taste .. and most residents i spoke with sort of give me 'that look' if i ask them if they enjoy the food. One thing i would say for the ECW (extended care wing)..is that they go beyond the call of duty to try and make their residents happy. My mother is a picky eater and they they tried hard to find things and ways of preparation of the food to keep her happy. The deserts though are quite tasty ! Care on the ECW floor is a little uneven. When they are there, they do a great job. The PABs always found time to sit with my mother and have discussions with her. Other times, the PABs are absent and it takes a little too long to answer a call. Weekends were more of a problem when they had temps come in. They were not as professional and caring as the regular staff. Turn around is a bit high. Not sure if salary is an issue,, but not all are happy campers. Probably typical in this environment. Why 5 stars ? The non care-giving staff is second to none. Yvonne (mainatainance) and his staff are kind, professional and eager to please the residents and their families. The Nursing Director is professional, friendly and takes as much time as needed to deal with any issues with the residents. The director , Carlos and the assistant director, Lisa are award winning administrators. Dedicated to their jobs, dedicated to the residents and always available for consultation. I felt that these people were part of my family and to me.. customer service is number one. If i had an issue, they were (with an exception here and there.. they are busy and only human lol) eager to rectify the problem. All in all i'd recommend this residence without reservation.
