3.4 / 5My mother loved it, clean, lots of activities and very good food.
My mother has been living at the Manoir de l'Ormière for a few months and she is delighted. The apartments and common areas are extremely well maintained, with lots of services and activities, including a swimming pool, gym, cinema, library, a large garden for beautiful summer days, and excellent meals in the dining room. In addition, the staff and residents are very attentive to welcoming new residents. I recommend this living environment without reservation.
We chose Le Manoir because we believed it was worth paying more to ensure our father's health and safety. Having been independent for years, we transferred him to the care facility where he remained until spring 2023. I use the pronoun "she" to simplify the following text. The following adds to our grief. When he entered the terminal phase, we asked Le Manoir to identify people in need to whom we could donate some of his belongings once we had completed our triage. The rent was paid for the month, so we took two weeks off before returning to clean. Even though the laws are clear, we made it clear that no one could enter his room during our absence. This was because after we told them that Dad wasn't coming back, I was in his apartment with the door closed when an employee entered and jumped when she saw me. She had no reason to enter. I repeated to her twice in the minutes that followed that no one had authorization to enter before our return. I locked the door, but I also sensed an arrogance and an air of superiority from the employee that inspired little confidence. In the days following our departure, she illegally entered my father's room and gave away belongings with a purchase value of over $3,000. Faced with our outrage, the belongings were returned to avoid police intervention. However, some low-value items (non-perishable groceries) that I had just bought simply vanished. What other things disappeared without our noticing? There is no respect for the residents and their families, and the belongings of a deceased person are treated as mere commodities. We reported the situation to the management of the Manor. Initially, we received only superficial words. After persistence, a disciplinary letter was issued. We expressed our dissatisfaction given the seriousness of the actions. We were told that the person responsible would be dismissed at the end of the month. I thought the matter was closed. I'm writing this today because this same person announced on social media that they are on vacation. So who knows if they'll be back at work in a few weeks. To protect your parents, I recommend installing a surveillance camera pointed at their bedroom door. This will maintain their privacy, but it will allow you to document any inappropriate comings and goings.
My relatives have lived there for several years. Generally, it's very well-maintained and clean. The same cannot be said for the quality of the food, which is apparently almost as bad as in long-term care facilities. The same goes for the table service; the staff are inadequate. The last time I ate there, it was pathetic and not very good. The dishes were returned almost full...in the garbage.
I went to see my grandparents yesterday, and it was funny because people were visiting the manor and asking me if I knew anyone who lived there, and what they thought of the place! My grandparents had wonderful careers, and they came to live in Quebec City to be closer to us. Living at the Manoir de L’Ormière is pure bliss for them, as my grandmother so aptly puts it. They are happy, surrounded by loved ones, they have many activities, and above all, they have made good friends. It's always a pleasure to see them so happy.
