On behalf of my in-laws (the late Nicole Bigras and Rodolphe Vincent, Anne Robert and her daughter Mélissa Aubin, my husband (Guy Robert), and my children (Mariau and Véronique Robert), I would like to profusely thank ViGi and specifically the team on the 3rd floor, as well as Josée, the attendants, nurses, and doctors who took care of my mother-in-law, Mrs. Bigras, for 5 years. She suffered from Alzheimer's. We always knew that the care she received was excellent, but after a stroke followed by 10 days of suffering before she left us, we realized the extent of the care provided. 1) Even though she was unconscious, all the staff approached her gently and said, Mrs. Bigras, we are going to do a, b, or c. 2) They treated her with such dignity and respect, always making sure to close the door before discovering her. 3) They washed her with great care and thoroughness, rubbing her limbs. and moisturizer on my face. There's more, but it would take too long to write. Suffice it to say, we can never express enough how much we appreciate the dedication and kindness of the staff on the 3rd floor. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!!

Hello everyone, my mother was very conscious and asked to go to the bathroom. She had only recently been in a wheelchair, and they refused her due to staff shortages. It's disgraceful; they made her lose all her dignity. I believe this requires a thorough inspection. My mother truly lost all her dignity. After I reported this to management, they put my mother in isolation because of my report. They told me she had the flu, but the doctor said everything was fine. They gave me the excuse that there had been a mistake by the nurse. My mother's condition deteriorated significantly afterward, and now she has passed away. I am speaking out because they can no longer punish her, but for the sake of the other residents, please clean up for the sake of the other residents. My mother was on the 3rd floor for 5 years.

Our mother, who suffers from dementia, is a resident of the Vigie long-term care facility in Gatineau. On the morning of October 7, 2020, she had diarrhea three times. This immediately triggered panic: vital signs were taken, she was tested for COVID-19, etc. While awaiting the results, she was to be isolated. The only measure considered was installing a door that locks from the outside to prevent her from leaving, even though we suggested other options, such as a one-to-one lock (too expensive), a chain (she'll jump over it), and a stop sign (that won't work). So, they assumed the results before even trying. Our mother likes to walk in the hallway, so they decided to lock her in. Her neighbor, who shares the same bathroom, also underwent COVID-19 testing but without any isolation measures. We saw her walking in the hallway several times. A clear double standard! We spend an average of 8 hours a day with our mother. We were shocked by this on two occasions. The first time, upon our arrival, she was locked in her room, screaming and banging on the door with her cane. She was extremely distressed. Another time, her door was locked, we could hear her screaming, sitting on the toilet, calling for help. Each time, no staff member was in sight. We took her vital signs several times a day, and the results were always normal. On October 9th, the Covid test result arrived: NEGATIVE. Finally, our mother would be able to move around! But no! We had to wait for the OK from head office, which, by the way, didn't even bother to reply. This text was written on October 10th, at 2 p.m., and our mother is still in isolation; her vital signs are still normal. This inhumane treatment is imposed by the staff of a head office that sits enthroned in its ivory tower in Montreal, completely disconnected from reality. We hear more and more about compassion in the treatment of the elderly. Here, we should be talking about elder abuse and neglect, as well as the unfairness of the confinement measures. As for the staff at Vigie Outaouais, they are waiting, just like us. I must say that some staff members, the majority, have shown great compassion and found other ways to ensure our mother remained in her room.
