This place is now the source of my perpetual unhappiness. I attended school there from 1996 to 1999. It was an abusive place; children who weren't violent were put in isolation. The cries of very young children with disabilities echoed in the hallways, children who didn't want to be thrown into isolation for dropping a pencil on the floor, while we were trying to follow the dictation of the frustrated teacher at the time. There was an enormous line for medication, because if you didn't take your medicine, you weren't considered well-behaved. Today, I live in another country, and I was forced to talk about it with great difficulty to my current psychiatrist, who told me that what I was seeing and indirectly experiencing at that time wasn't normal. He diagnosed me with post-traumatic stress disorder and prescribed Zoloft (Sertraline), an antidepressant for PTSD that doesn't cure everything but allows me to breathe mentally. It made it easier to talk about it, but it's still difficult. I no longer have the scenes of being put in isolation replaying in my mind even 25 years later, but the trauma is still there. All this because I have Asperger's syndrome. Excuse me for existing in my own way. But, regardless, no child or adult with a mental disability should have their person destroyed to this extent in a so-called care or learning environment. New for a few months now: a meeting room for the Youth Protection Services (DPJ). It's a shame the toys are so outdated: some are so old I used to play with them as a child! Strollers without dolls, board games and puzzles incomplete or broken. The premises are dirty and dusty, and due to budget constraints, parents have to sweep and wash the tables. Stained sofas and dirty toilets. Sometimes you're forced to feed the children at low tables without chairs, directly on the floor. Crawling babies have black dust on their hands and clothes. The DPJ has clearly invested in computers rather than toys for the children and an adequate cleaning budget. There's no place to play outside, and the premises are poorly ventilated in the summer, making it stifling. The staff feels entitled to comment amongst themselves in front of the parents and children (laughing, whispering, making angry faces) as if they were in front of a gorilla cage at the zoo! Children are forbidden from taking home any crafts they've made with their parents. In any case, it's difficult to do crafts without bringing your own supplies because there's nothing there except a few broken crayons and a worn, torn coloring book. People in prison are treated better than the children and parents "prisoned by the Youth Protection Services."
