Unfortunately, there's a severe staff shortage, which means patients are often left to fend for themselves. There's also a serious lack of emotional support for patients. Sadly, this is what's happening in the public sector now. Run by a bad government, our poor elderly end their lives in their own urine and sweat, heartbroken, in a hospital room.

No empathy for the residents, and even less for their families... My father came in there on his own two feet, talking and eating... Two days later, he couldn't do any of that anymore... He couldn't walk, eat, or talk... Yet, I was there every day... My father wore pull-ups, he urinated in them, but he defecated in the toilet... My father was more than constipated... They never asked him to go to the bathroom; I had to ask for him... They brought in the commode chair, and it worked, but the attendants weren't happy because there was feces everywhere in the room, which is understandable since it had been at least a week since he'd had a bowel movement... In the month and four days my father was there, he never had a bath or a shower... He was only washed with a washcloth... The attendants and nurses said They couldn't take him to bathe because he couldn't walk... Yet, he was walking perfectly well when he arrived... Ten days after arriving at the Lionel Émond long-term care facility, my father was hospitalized for two weeks at the Hull Hospital... The day he arrived at the Lionel Émond long-term care facility, he was forced to change doctors, pharmacies, and medications... I told them that I was the one who went with him to his appointments with his doctor, that he had been seeing this doctor and this pharmacy for a long time, and that his medications suited him very well... I was told that he was in a long-term care facility now and that this was how it worked... He had a doctor from the long-term care facility, and the pharmacy from the long-term care facility didn't even have his medications (they changed all his medications), and I had no say in the matter... My father's food was reduced to puree, and he had to drink a thickened liquid; they were afraid he would choke... Honestly!!! 🤬 And here I'm not just talking about my father, but in general... If residents don't want to eat, they don't force them... If residents don't want to take their medication, they don't force them, and if residents don't want to wash, they don't force them... They don't force them; it's against their principles, and they find it cruel to force them... Yet, for my part, I find it even more cruel, a resident who hasn't taken their medication, who hasn't eaten, and who smells of urine a thousand times worse, because they weren't "forced" to wash... I guess we don't have the same priorities. My father was on the 5th floor, and the day after he arrived at the long-term care facility, an attendant from his old residence and I had the idea to give him a tour of the facility... On the 4th floor, we turned around... The whole floor smelled of urine a thousand times worse. It was disgusting... We went through the entire Lionel Émond long-term care facility... In none of the rooms was there any decoration on the walls... Everything was white... Nothing to bring joy... It was white and cold... It's awful to say, but it was like they were all in prison, waiting to die... The only decorated room was my father's... But he didn't have it for long... He died one month and four days after their arrival... On the same day my father died, and on the same floor, there were three other deaths... In the same week, there were 11 deaths in that long-term care facility... One of the two coroners who came to collect my father told me that he had just lost his mother the week before, on the same floor as my father... It wasn't my idea to send my father to a long-term care facility, but the social worker, whom we rarely saw, and the occupational therapist, whom I never saw, in They decided otherwise... Yet, several caregivers and nurses at his former residence said that my father wasn't a suitable case for a long-term care facility... My father was very loved at his former residence. Perhaps because he was one of the youngest... 69 years old... 😊 But it seems that it's our healthcare system that decides for our loved ones, even if they don't know them as well as we do... 🤬
